Rainbow Carnival Ticket Garlands From Craft the Rainbow

We are so excited to announce the launch of The House That Lars Built‘s new book, Craft the Rainbow! Brittany is an old friend, and even used to contribute to Oh Happy Day, so we couldn’t wait to see her new book filled with all kinds of colorful inspiration! Now we’ll turn it over to Brittany to give you a sneak peek of one of the projects in the book: Rainbow Carnival Ticket Garlands!

Rainbow Carnival Ticket Garlands

While living in Denmark, I returned home to the US for a much-needed family visit. I also used it as an excuse to stock up on party and craft supplies for my newly established DIY website. I came across the most beautiful shades of raffle tickets, the colors of sherbet, at a local party store and being only $3 each for a roll of 2000, bought one in each color. My mind was racing with potential uses. At one point I turned them into business cards by stamping them with my logo and contact information and handing them out like rewards from the skeeball machine at Chuck E. Cheese. Eventually I realized how perfect they are for garland making. You don’t have the extra task of prepping new shapes as it is already done for you—just separate and sew!

Inspiration: a tented circus (complete with party animals!)

Time involved: one hour for a strand of ten feet

Paper: raffle tickets

Materials

Instructions

  • Tear the raffle tickets apart. I suggest making piles of the color and placing them in individual plastic bags for safe keeping
  • Sew the tickets together down the middle in any color combination you desire. I chose a pink, red, orange, yellow, mint pattern sewn down the middle horizontally. Sewing them horizontally allows them to flap around more. I chose a zigzag stitch in a dark thread so it would stand out, but any stitch will do.
